Florida Polytechnic Time Trial Series 2020

MANDATORY RULE IN EFFECT:
Face coverings will be required to be worn by all participants and spectators while not riding (this includes the TT start line). This includes standing around the registration area before and after the time trial, at the awards, and while standing at the TT start line. Participants will be asked to maintain social distancing by standing 6 feet or more apart. Riders will be required to sanitize their hands before touching pens. There will not be a water cooler available for riders so please bring your own water and ice. 

All riders (including pre-registered) will be required to check in at the start to notify us that they are there and will be required to have their temperature checked in order to participate. 


The Florida Polytechnic Time Trial Race Series is coming back with 10 time trials in 2021 (Stay Tuned to Dates!)

Categories and Styles

  • Open to ages 14-99 and all categories Pro thru Cat 5. Riders to go off in the following order oldest to youngest at 9:00am:
    1. Hand-cycle
    2. Paracycle
    3. Women Road Bike (Merckx)
    4. Men Road Bike (Merckx)
    5. Women TT Bike (Aero Style)
    6. Men TT Bike (Aero Style)
    7. Recumbent 
  • In order to qualify for “Merckx” style, you may not use any of the following items: Disc wheel, Aero wheels greater than 60mm deep, Aero bars, Time Trial Bike Frames, Aero helmets, or Shoe covers. You must declare yourself as “Aero” or “Merckx” either at online registration or in the staging area

*If you have any of the above equipment on your road bike or body, you will be classified in the time trial bike category.
Common questions:
1. Are Zipp 404 wheels ok for this series? Answer: Yes!
2. Can you wear a skin-suit in the road bike category: Yes!

Dates

  • 2/9, 3/15, 6/7, 6/21, 7/5 (Special Edition), 7/26, 8/16, 9/20, 10/25, 11/8 (Special Edition)

Warm Up and Times

  • 7:30-8:00am: Registration
  • 7:30-7:45am: Arrive with bike be ready to spin at 8:00am
  • 8:00am: Structured warm up session with effective techniques, pacing practice, course preview, and a motivational talk with coach. This is a unique valued offering that will significantly help participants perform at their best and enjoy the event
  • 9:00am: First rider off. Riders will go in 30 second intervals
  • 9:45-10:30am: Results and Awards
  • 10:30am: Group ride to begin (30-50 miles; moderate-hard pace)

The Course

  • 8 mile time trial out and back (2 turn arounds)
  • 15 kilometer time trial (same as 8 mile course with 1 additional turn around; 3 turn-arounds)
  • 8.5 mile special edition time trial (Old Lake Alfred Road)
  • Perfect location for a time trial with little traffic, long straight aways, and bike lanes
  • Perfect 20 minute power test location

  • Parking: On Research Way near the west junction of Research Way and University Blvd. This is just west of western entrance to Florida Polytechnic University. Parking is free.

There are no official on-site restrooms. Florida Polytechnic University is occasional open which has restrooms. The best locations with the closest restrooms are:

  • *USA Cycling Membership Required- $10 for one day license or $80 for Annual
  • **USA Cycling Insurance has increased their rates to $4.75 in 2020 per rider for insurance surcharge, this is included in the $25.00 Entry Fee

Group Ride and Awards

  • After each time trial, we will have awards per category (3 minimum per category for awards)
  • The group ride will start ~10:30am ranging from 30-50 miles (moderate-hard pace); standard route is ~40-45 miles
  • We will have A, A Nice, and B/C group paced groups if we have a big enough with different speed preferences

  • Overall Series Awards including Medals for top 3 in each category
  • Overall Series Champions Jersey and Trophy for winner in each category
  • Best 8 results will count towards overall points series (2 results get dropped if competing in all 10 time trials)
  • Points System: 1st (30), 2nd (25), 3rd (21), 4th (18), 5th (16), 6th (15), 7th (14), 8th (13), 9th (12), 10th (11)
